Hybrid Program - Third Grade
The Third Grade Hybrid Program consists of math, English language arts, unit studies, science, fine arts, social studies, and P.E. Hybrid students will participate in monthly pizza days, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Party, Talent Show, Valentine Party, and Go Texan Day on Wednesday.
Saxon Math 3 - Learn new lessons and work problems. Lessons will be completed while at school.
English Language Arts:
- Reading and Phonics - third grade reading and phonics skills, including listening, comprehension, and oral reading practice
- Spelling and Handwriting - will be incorporated into the follow-up activities to the reading and phonics.
Unit Studies - explore a variety of topics across the curriculum.
Science – Using labs and hands on activities, students explore the exciting world of life and physical science.
Fine Arts - Students 1) use a variety of media to develop art skills, and 2) learn about composers and their music.
Social Studies - Using a literature based approach, students will listen to and discuss By the Shores of Silver Lake (Laura Ingalls Wilder), a book based on Laura's childhood experiences in the late 1800's. As a culminating activity, students will enjoy participating in a brief presentation about the story for their parents. This will be a fun and interactive class.
Physical Education – Students enjoy a variety of physical activities, including age-appropriate physical games in the 24' x 42' room, and an all-time favorite, the obstacle course. Competition is usually in the form of 'trying to beat my own time'; good sportsmanship and having fun are emphasized.
