OUR SEVENTEENTH YEAR Marsha Rohe opened Horizons in 1992, in order to provide enrichment classes for homeschoolers. Since that time, students in the first through sixth grades have enjoyed a variety of classes in the Wednesday Enrichment program. Art, drama, science with science lab, P.E., and social studies are currently offered in the Wednesday program. Elementary students participate in the Pizza Hut Book-It program, and enjoy a Christmas party, Valentine's party, Pizza Days, Field Day, a Spring program, and other activities. The Horizons Elementary Academy began in 2002. The Academy is available for fifth and sixth grades and covers language arts and math. Classes meet once weekly. The secondary program at Horizons is geared toward serious students and is for homeschooling families wanting to outsource particular subject areas. Students need to be willing to complete homework assignments and adhere to school policies. Horizons graduates have been offered admission to various universities including Texas A&M, Baylor, Rice University, MIT, Johns Hopkins, Texas A&M Galveston, UT Dallas, Houston Baptist University, and Sam Houston. Horizons Education Center offers over 4500 square feet of dedication to assisting home schools. The primary goal of Horizons is to serve the homeschooling community by providing excellence in education and concern for the students while demonstrating and encouraging Christlikeness. Teachers at Horizons are qualified and caring professionals who share the motivation of parents to provide the best possible learning environment for their children. Horizons is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Champion Forest and Louetta, two miles east of SH249. For over sixteen years at this location, Horizons has served families from communities in the northwest Houston area including Cy-Fair, Tomball, Klein, Spring, Magnolia, Hockley, Aldine, and The Woodlands. |
